What's a product manager do?
The definition of product manager (PM) can be a little vague, it really depends on the company you work for. For example, PM’s at Microsoft are often pretty technical, whereas other companies can be more strategic. A product manager is essentially a strategic vision setter/executer for technical development within a company. They achieve this by coordinating across multiple departments, such as business, design, research, legal, etc, in order to come up with a technical product or idea/solution that serves a problem or need. Once they have a clear idea, it’s about managing the life-cycle of the product. It starts with identifying a business goal, “do we want to move our revenue numbers, profit numbers, or try to reduce costs?” For example, if you work at a tech real-estate company, you might be in charge of the strategy behind selling more homes.
