What's a day in the life of a corporate finance manager?

I help the organization understand where it spends its money, work to spend it smarter, and in a more organized way. Additionally, I work to upgrade our finance systems to ensure our corporate finance team can serve the needs of a growing business. Typically 40-60 hours /week.

What's the best part of being a corporate finance manager?

This can be different if the organization doesn’t appreciate you or have the resources to support your team. I get the opportunity to prioritize the initiatives I believe will create the most positive impact on the organization, and not spend much time taking orders.

What's the downside of being a corporate finance manager? Words of caution?

Choosing the organization matters. It’s essential to understand the financial position of the organization before joining and understand some of the primary goals of the finance department.

A corporate finance role is very different in a very mature organization (think Fortune 500) vs. a startup vs. a mom & pop shop. I have found mid-sized to be my sweet spot, complex enough global challenges with some scale, without the incredible red tape of a giant.
